The General Medicine department is one of the prime departments functioning ever since the beginning of SNH&RC. It carries out all important health care delivery functions in par with any of the other notable premier medical institute.General medicine department has five OP consultation suites in the ground floor of the institute, very near to reception, registration and billing sections. (Room No:1 to 5). Medical OPD functions Monday- Saturday from .

Department OPD, caters consultation services for daily on average basis 275 patients.Department arranges, immediate lab services, X-ray, CT scanning, ECG, Echo, ultra sonography, etc which are completed the same day thus facilitating treatment modalities same day.

Department co-ordinates and conducts, routine master health check up and diabetic health check up on daily basis. Department executes emergency services in laison with the emergency department and caters to the needy. Department in addition to conventional services, has got a pulmonary function unit which carries out spirometry tests regularly.

Department in laison with diabetic unit, carries out routine Doppler and biosthesiometry for diabetics attending medical OPD. General medicine department has robust IP services, with adequate number of beds ,it admits cases in

  • Lynn ward (Special ward)

In addition to routine in patient services, medical wards carry out

  • Pleural tapping
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Ascitic fluid tapping
  • Pericardiocentesis
  • Under water seal drainage
  • Bone marrow aspiration
  • Central vein access, etc.

Discharge summaries, are daily and vividly prepared and dispatched on the same day of the discharge. Department in co-ordination with surgical team, intensive care team (anaesthesist), cardiology, Nephrology, Neuro surgery, Urology, ENT, Dental, Opthal, Psychiatry, Ortho, Skin Physiotherapy caters the team management and other needy procedures efficiently.

Under the guidance of out Director, department arranges and conducts periodical CME programme on various topics, recent medical developments which are attended by many no of medical personnel. It also arranges continuing nursing education for nurses and several allied health service personnel.

Department apart from the above, conducts periodical health camps in rural areas and celebrates world diabetic day and other important health days. In addition to the above functions, general medicine department contributes to the research activities carried out by our research centre. Our medical consultantís function as research co-workers, in the field of diabetes hypertension and lipidology.
